In March 2023, Greece officially became the 4th station of the expansion of Greenvolt, the Group that pioneers in Europe in the field of renewable energy sources.

In its first year of operation, Greenvolt Next has successfully completed the installation of 3.2 MW of solar power for business customers, enabling businesses to generate clean, renewable energy, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and helping to reduce their carbon footprint.
One year of presence in the Greek market
Today, Greenvolt Next has planned projects for 20 MW of solar power in Greece, which have not yet materialized due to delays in the issuance of permits by the authorities and objective difficulties related to the regulatory framework and bureaucratic processes. In any case, however, the number of projects that have been implemented and planned, demonstrates the strong commitment of businesses to the transition to sustainable energy solutions. Solar production from Greenvolt Next’s 12 largest projects in Greece has resulted in a significant reduction of 2,894 tons of CO2 emissions per year, which demonstrates the significant environmental impact of the transition to renewable energy sources and Greenvolt Next’s role in promoting sustainability .
The demand for the installation of renewable energy projects, which Greenvolt Next registered during its first year of operation in Greece, reflects the strong interest on the part of businesses in the installation of self-generation photovoltaic systems, which confirms the company’s original business plan and the choice of the Portuguese company to choose and invest in our country.

The challenges of the energy transition of businesses
The Distributed Generation (DG) sector plays a key role in the energy transition of businesses, due to its ability to decentralize energy production, enhance grid resilience and promote sustainability. DG systems allow electricity to be produced closer to the point of use, reducing transmission and distribution losses associated with central generation plants. This decentralization improves energy efficiency and network resilience. In addition, the obvious advantage of using existing infrastructure such as buildings and roofs is created. By taking advantage of these spaces, we can quickly offer solutions to energy needs, as opposed to the long development periods often associated with large-scale projects.
However, despite the positive sign regarding the interest of the market and businesses for the installation of photovoltaic self-generation systems, there are several and important challenges that must be addressed regarding the institutional framework, the network and the licensing procedures. The market’s need for stability and clarity regarding the regulatory decisions concerning the legal framework of distributed generation and the simplification of some procedures, in order to speed up the implementation of projects is imperative.
Greece has noted significant delays in the implementation of the Political and Regulatory Frameworks, which creates significant problems in the market.
